It’s okay to love every part of yourself, even the perceived negative traits. By showing them love they dissolve into the light. If you turn your back on these aspects of you, they will fight for your attention. Send love to every part of your being by practising the following guided meditation.
Quick Tip – For those new to meditation, it is helpful to use the voice recorder on your phone and read through each step as outlined above and play it back while you sit with your eyes closed.
- Sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes
- Take a few long, slow deep breaths
- Allow your body to relax
- Scan your body for any areas of tension, breath into these areas and on the out breath release the tension
- Now, think of a time when you were very happy, a time when you laughed so much that your cheeks hurt from smiling and tears of laughter ran down your face
- Take a few moments to feel the joy from this moment and to experience once again how you felt
- Allow these feelings to build up in your body
- Now send love and grattitude to this experience
- Bring yourself back to the present moment, your eyes remain closed
- Take another deep breath
- Now think of a time when you felt sad
- Allow yourself to explore this emotion without the need to hide it or to run from it
- Experience the cleansing affect of the tears of sadness, the release it offers
- This is only an emotion, another aspect of you to be expressed, allow it to flow through you
- There is no need to be afraid of it, welcome it and let it go
- It will pass very quickly once it has an outlet
- Now send love to this sadness and thank it for helping you
- Without sadness we cannot fully appreciate happiness
- Bring yourself back to the present moment and take another deep, cleansing breath
- Take a moment to scan your body again and to release any tension
- Now think of a time when you were angry
- Are you still holding onto some of this anger?
- Allow yourself to experience the emotion
- Anger also has a cleansing quality if allowed to flow through you and to be released in the appropriate manner
- If it is repressed, it will grow inside of you until it finally boils over
- Anger hides itself in shame, so if it is not willing to show itself to you at this time just send love to it anyway and let it know that you acknowledge it and it no longer needs to hide away
- When it does come forth you will allow it to pass through you and move on with ease
- Spend a moment sending love to the emotion of anger that resides within you
- Bring yourself back to the present moment
- Take a few deep breaths and allow any tension that you feel in your body to release on each out breath
- When you feel ready, gently open your eyes
Note: you can repeat the process outlined above but with other emotions that you feel you need to explore, such as fear, stress, hate and of course positive emotions like love, joy and peace.
