This was the messages that the angels gave me a few years ago “The peace that you seek lies within”.
I was being told to stop looking outside of myself for comfort, security and happiness. No amount of clothes or the latest smartphone would lead to true happiness, despite any fleeting pleasure they brought. I knew I had to reconnect with my still, inner quietude to reveal what always lies there. That peaceful, secure happy place that I would sometimes visit. But also much more than this, that bliss beyond words that is the essence of my being. It hadn’t gone anywhere, I had just chosen to hide it beneath layers of worry and fears. Not that these worries were even what you might consider to be chronic anxiety, just everyday concerns that seemed to become predominant. And now the angels were gently guiding me back to where I wanted to be. In truth, It’s where we all want to be – at peace with ourselves and the world. That is true serenity, but it all starts with ourselves. How could we be at peace with others and live in forgiveness, letting go of anger and frustration, if we are unforgiving, angry and frustrated with ourselves?
In reality, there is nothing to forgive. It’s all been a learning process and each if us has done our best, given the information available to us at any point in time. As we learn and grow, we know more and are equipped to make better decisions and to act more compassionately. But that’s not to say that we should condemn our past selves for ways that we have acted unconsciously. On the contrary, we need to gratefully accept the learning opportunities that we have experienced and let go of any hurt, regret or guilt that we may be harbouring. How can we be at peace when we resent our own actions? Whether it is something from the distant past that we are still holding onto or something we have done or said five minutes ago; the time period makes no difference, it is all part of the past and must be released.
According to A Course in Miracles “having accepted the errors as yours, do not keep them. Give them over quickly to the Holy Spirit to be undone completely, so that their effects will vanish from your mind”.
We might have been taught to feel shameful or guilty for our actions but in reality this only brings about more discontentment and serves no purpose. Holding onto guilt no matter the degree only exacerbates it. Peace does not await those who feel guilty or feel any other self deprecating emotions. What purpose does guilt serve, only to keep you down and stop you reaching your full potential. Cast off these chains in order to set yourself free and reconnect to your peaceful, loving state.
The peace that we all seek lies within , but mostly beneath layers of worries and concerns. Be still and that peace will reveal itself to you. Not through watching TV or working out in the gym, but through silent meditation. The raging waves of worries and fears will gradually subside and become still, calm water, and peace will be yours.
